History

The Blackwood Design Guide was first conceived in 2014 when Blackwood decided to address the ongoing issue of poorly designed homes unfit for those with disabilities and which did not promote independent living for the user.

Initial designs for a “concept house” in late 2014 have since evolved over the last 8 years into a comprehensive design guide covering a wide and multi-faceted range of topics in relation to the design and building of highly accessible homes. This has been focused around Blackwood’s designated “4 core principles”;

Accessible, Affordable, Beautiful, and Connected

The Blackwood Design Guide will continue to be relevant to its intended users ranging from designers & developers as well as everyday people curios to learn more about what Blackwood’s vision for the future of accessible housing is. The online platform will allow a greater user base to access and benefit from the content.

It is our ambition that, through the guide, everyone will become better informed about inclusive and independent living and the considerations involved to promote healthier living & active communities.
