
Bedroom
As part of a flexible and adaptable home, the bedroom should provide appropriate space for manoeuvrability, accommodate specialist equipment to conform to a wide variety of disabilities and space for a range of caring scenarios. Ease of access to adjoining spaces, particularly the en-suite is a key consideration with the longer term option of hoist tracking.
The size and layout of a bedroom should be spacious, Accessible and well designed to allow a wheelchair user unrestricted access and use.
The Bedroom will be Connected via Digital inclusion incorporating the latest in smart home systems including Blackwood’s very own CleverCogs platform. Refer to the Digital Connectivity section for more information.

Design Principles

- Quick and clear electronic assistance with Blackwoods Clevercogs software via a tablet providing automated and wireless control of blinds, doors and lighting
- Fully integrated accessible storage creating clear floor areas by design
- Direct access to main en-suite bathroom
- Underfloor heating
- Optional partition with pocket door or folding partition to divide bedroom on ground floor in alternative layout options
- Second Bedroom / Optional carer accommodation creating privacy.

Layout for Blackwood Home
- Nominal size of 3100 x 4700mm for master bedroom with direct access to shower room and minimum 3100 x 3200mm for secondary bedrooms to reflect current good practice
- Integrated storage for clothes providing a mix of drawers and hanging space 500 – 600mm deep to conform to the relevant standards
- 1200mm clearance width to one side of the bed with 800mm clearance to the opposite side and front for wheelchair users
- 600mm minimum run of hanging space per bed space
- Drawer unit 1000mm high totalling 1200mm length per bed space
- 400 x 400mm bedside table required per bed space
- Clear space of 1200mm in front of all storage unit
- Double bedroom should be able to accommodate a double bed or 2 singles as required for different households
- Pocket Door Clearance minimum size 840mm
- 1500mm turning circle within bedroom
- Non principal bedrooms should be accessible to allow a disabled parent to attend a child.
